About Bob McFadden and His Nevada Art Collection

Bob McFadden (1949-2004) was a prominent figure in Carson City, Nevada, whose passion for art and local history left a lasting mark on the region. Known for amassing the largest private collection of Nevada-related art, Bob was not only a businessman but also a dedicated preservationist and advocate for Carson City's cultural heritage.

Bob’s love for Nevada art began as a personal pursuit, growing into a remarkable collection of over 700 works, capturing the essence of the state’s landscapes, history, and people. His collection includes pieces from 19th and 20th-century artists who shaped the visual narrative of Nevada. Bob was deeply involved in researching and curating these works, which reflected his commitment to celebrating the state’s rich cultural history.

One of Bob’s most significant contributions to Carson City was the restoration and reopening of the historic St. Charles Hotel in 1994. Originally built in 1862, the hotel had long been a cornerstone of the city, hosting a variety of notable figures and events. With his passion for history and preservation, Bob meticulously restored the hotel to its former glory, revitalizing the downtown area and ensuring this iconic piece of Carson City’s heritage remained vibrant.

Bob’s dedication extended beyond art and preservation. He was actively involved in community projects and local development, contributing to the betterment of Carson City. His efforts led to the creation of the Bob McFadden Plaza, a public space that now serves as a hub for cultural events and gatherings in downtown Carson City. This plaza, named in his honor stands as a testament to his lasting legacy
